Local 2544 members should contact an OWCP representative as soon as possible following a work-related injury or illness, and whenever questions, concerns, or claim problems arise. Early assistance may help prevent avoidable delays, but members may request assistance at any stage of the claim.

We can assist with:

• Filing and managing an OWCP claim
• Requests for additional medical evidence
• Claim acceptance or denial issues
• Wage-loss and CA-7 compensation problems
• Medical treatment or surgery authorization
• Work restrictions and return-to-work concerns

Keep copies of all OWCP letters, medical reports, work-status notes, and ECOMP submissions. Pay close attention to all response and appeal deadlines.

YOUR RIGHTS UNDER ARTICLE 18

At the employee’s request, the Agency must promptly provide counseling regarding the right to file for compensation benefits and provide appropriate assistance with filing a claim.

Injury compensation generally cannot be paid for the same period covered by paid leave. In some circumstances, employees may repay previously used sick or annual leave and seek restoration of that leave through the leave-buyback process.
